Golf has a real history in the Poconos — the region has drawn players for over a century, and Monroe County alone has a deep bench of courses, from municipal options to championship resort layouts. Here’s what’s actually here, and which towns give you the easiest access.
Public & Resort Courses
Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort — Shawnee-on-Delaware. Completed in 1911, designed by the famed A.W. Tillinghast, and host to golf greats including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer over the decades. Located right along the Delaware River, close to East Stroudsburg.
Mount Airy Golf Club — Mount Pocono. An 18-hole, lakefront championship course at Mount Airy Casino Resort, with holes reinterpreted by architect Hal Purdy from Sports Illustrated’s “Best 18 Holes in America.” Located in Mount Pocono.
The Poconos Club (formerly Country Club of the Poconos) — Marshalls Creek. An 18-hole public championship course with wetlands, elevated greens, and strategic bunkering. The course came under new private ownership in 2024 and was rebranded from its longtime “Country Club of the Poconos” name. Close to both Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg.
Pocono Hills Golf Course — East Stroudsburg. An 18-hole, par-71 resort course at Pocono Mountains Villas, with mountain-fairway views and on-site dining.
Mount Pocono Public Golf Course — the county’s municipal option, built in 1920, a shorter par-34 course in Mount Pocono — a good fit for buyers who want an accessible, lower-cost course close to home.
Pocono Manor Golf Club — Pocono Manor. A resort course with a long history hosting All-Star Golf, LPGA, and PGA Senior events, near the Tobyhanna area.
Glen Brook Golf Club — Stroudsburg. A regulation 18-hole municipal course owned and operated by Stroud Township, on Hickory Valley Rd. A genuinely accessible public option right in Stroudsburg, with a clubhouse restaurant on-site.
Terra Greens Golf Course — East Stroudsburg. A 9-hole, USGA-rated public course with tree-lined fairways and Pocono Mountain views — a shorter, more affordable round close to East Stroudsburg.
Private & Members Courses Worth Knowing
A number of the county’s finer courses are private or resident-only, which matters if you’re evaluating a specific community: Buck Hill Golf Club near Buck Hill Falls and Canadensis; Jack Frost National Golf Club in Blakeslee, designed by Terry LaGree; Pinecrest Lake Golf & Country Club, a par-72 championship layout; and Split Rock Golf Club, a 27-hole course near Lake Harmony, close to Cresco and the Jack Frost/Big Boulder area. In several of these communities, course access is tied directly to property ownership — worth confirming before you fall in love with a listing.
Choosing a Town Based on Golf
East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg put you closest to the largest cluster of public courses; Mount Pocono gives you both a resort course and the municipal option; Cresco and Canadensis are the towns to look at if a private or members-only course is part of the lifestyle you’re picturing.
